Mad Miner 2 - Mad Mod Editor
Jan 15, 2025
Greetings from the first update note of the new year! To make it easier to mod Mad Miner 2, I'm developing a dedicated mod editor that will allow even players who have never modded before to easily add their own content to Mad Miner 2.

The screenshot above is from version 0.5 of the Mad Mod Editor. As you can see from the interface, it is very easy to add new content to the game by making visual edits! Without any coding knowledge, you can add your own models to the game and give them functions as easily as possible.

For example, you want to add a pickaxe to the game that is difficult to produce. This pickaxe has a very high hitting power. But its production also requires a lot of grind. Therefore, you can add the items needed for the pickaxe (handle, pick, rope, etc.) by selecting the item type resource, and then you can set production tariffs for these items. Maybe your pickaxe even uses a special type of ore. For this, you can immediately set the item mode to ore, then set the raw resource that this ore will drop to one of the items you just gave with the resource mode, and add which ingot this raw resource turns into after melting in the furnace. Then you can select the pickaxe mode and set the pickaxe that the character can now hold in his hand and the production scheme with the items you just added and include it in the game!

Although the examples I gave above may seem confusing, they are actually things that you can quickly add to the game with a very simple loop. You just need to have models exported in .obj format!

To talk a little bit about the technical side of the business, I had to write a transporter that imports obj formats. Thanks to Blender, you can also import vertex color information into obj formats that normally do not support vertex color. This is where the importer I wrote can read this vertex color information and import the model you made in color! Thanks to vertex color, without dealing with textures and UV maps, models that are both suitable for the style of the game and that you can quickly create can be included in Mad Miner 2.

From Blender to Mad Mod Editor, I will, of course, convey the process to the players with tutorials. Thanks to short and concise videos, anyone who wants to mod the game will quickly learn the Mad Mod Editor and the information needed for obj models beforehand.

I'd like to come to the end of this update note and hope the Mad Mod Editor has increased your excitement for Mad Miner 2. See you in the next updates!
